From time to time, someone will inquire about
Matt's interests outside of his work. What does he do in his spare time?
Who are his artistic influences? What books does he read? Where does he
draw inspiration from?
Here is a quick Q and A, which Matt has taken the time to answer . . .
FAVORITE ARTISTS: Drew Struzan, J.C.Leyendecker, Gil Elvgren, Norman Rockwell, Patrick Nagel, David Grove and Michael Dudash. There are so many artists that I draw inspiration from that I couldn't even begin to make a list.
FAVORITE WRITERS: Warren Murphy, Richard Saphir, Paul Michael Kane, Frank Miller, Neil Gaiman, Michael Crichton, Tom Veitch... I'm sure I'm forgetting some.
FAVORITE FILM MAKERS: George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Robert Zemeckis, Ron Howard, Sam Raimi, James Cameron, Bryan Singer and, of course, Trey Parker.
FAVORITE COMIC BOOK ARTISTS: Off the top of my head... Adam Hughes, Cam Kennedy, Dave McKean, Joe Chiodo, J. Scott Campbell, Simon Bisley, Travis Charest, Jon Muth, Mike Mignola...
HOBBIES: I'm lucky that I've incorporated almost all of my hobbies into my work, but I find extra relaxation in writing and playing music. I play guitar, drums, piano and keyboards.
FAVORITE MOVIES: This could go on forever! All the Star Wars and Indiana Jones films, Waiting For Guffman, The Fifth Element, Remo Williams, Life Is Beautiful, Romancing the Stone, Parenthood, Austin Powers, Jackie Chan flicks, Chasing Amy, Legends of the Fall, Forrest Gump, Something About Mary, Indian Summer, and the Evil Dead Trilogy.
FAVORITE TV SHOWS: American Gothic was the greatest show ever, but it was only on for one season. I loved Moonlighting and currently enjoy the Tom Green Show.
FAVORITE VIDEO GAMES: Zelda 64. I'm also having fun with the PC version of the Episode I game. I'm having a hard time beating Darth Maul, though!
CURRENT COMICS READ: Danger Girl is one of the most refreshing books out there. The new WildCats is great, HellBoy, anything Sin City, Battle Chasers, Sandman, Jay and Silent Bob, Daredevil, the new Black Widow...
LAST BOOK READ: Feel This Book, by Ben Stiller and Janeane Garofalo
LAST CD BOUGHT: Nuno - Mourning Widows. It's an import that I had to order from Japan.
ONE THING MOST PEOPLE DON'T KNOW: When I was 18 I got a huge Darth Vader tattoo on my left bicep. I just thought that Darth would be a great tattoo. While I don't regret it, I have no plans to get any more.
FAVORITE QUOTE: There are three kinds of people in the world: Those who make things happen; those who watch things happen; and those who say, "What happened?!"
