The
Daria Jontak character has come a long way, in and out of various
Planetmatt projects over the years. Her first appearance was in
issue 5 of an underground comic book Matt Busch used to self-publish
in 1991 while in college. ZARK was the name of the book,
but later she became a main character in his comic titled KASTAR
SHANDAX.
In 1995, Busch crafted DARIA JONTAK into a movie package,
which was in developement with James Cameron's Light Storm Enetertainment,
with star Pamela Anderson attached. The film version of DARIA
never moved past development, however, two years later caught
the attention of the publishers at Larry Flynt Publications in
Beverly Hills.
In 1997, DARIA JONTAK became an on-going comic series
written and illustrated by Busch, running through a dozen issues
of HUSTLER COMIX and later BROWN SUGAR. In 2001,
these series were collected into graphic novels with new cover
art by Realm Press and JMJ Media, Inc.
Currently, the Daria Jontak character is being developed
with a whole new look into the movie KLEPTOMODE, Busch's
next venture into independent filmmaking. Daria has bounced around
quite a bit, and it'll be interesting to see where she goes from
here!
