THE
GREAT ROOM

The
builders of this home call this 'the great room.' Claims Busch,
"From what I'm told, this house is the only custom built
home in the subdivision. It's unique, and for me, it's the perfect
blend of rest, relaxation, and recreation, while also serving
as my creative playground. It's comfortable, but that's good because
this is where I do serious work."

While
the look of this room may not be one you'd expect from Matt, he
actually created all of the exotic paintings himself. "The
art was custom-made for the house. I don't thrive on interior
decorating, but I did put a lot into this room in particular."

"I
collect Hindu art and statues, particularly from Indonesia. I'm
not Hindu, and don't even claim to know much about it, I just
love the way it looks."

A
keen observer will notice that every Indonesian painting in Busch's
home is based on an authentic statue that he has collected, like
the Shiva one above.

On
display is one of Busch's rare attempts at sculpture. The terra
cotta bust in the upper left was done in his early college days.
"The teacher hated me. One day he took my finished piece
here and threw it to the floor, busting it to pieces. I saw it
as an opportunity and didn't hesitate to glue it back together.
Now- it has character and looks even better!"

The
experience also inspired Busch to create this painting, which
hangs in one of his hallways.

On
the top left of the cabinet sits an authentic 'spirit-house',
which is said to give ghosts a place to rest, rather than haunting
a home.

Busch's
home features multiple cathedral ceilings, as high as 20 feet.
Several nook spaces are carved into the ceiling, allowing Busch
to display even more exotic artifacts.

"I
also collect weeds, reeds, and other bamboo-type stuff. I just
like the Earthy-feel it brings into the home."

At
night, these nooks with recessed lighting splash color to create
a vibrant feel.
